DAY 1: Cusco – Soraypampa – Humantay Lagoon.

DAY 5: Machu Picchu town (Aguas Calientes) – Machu Picchu – Return to Cusco.

- 18:20 hours. Train departure from Aguas Calientes to Ollantaytambo station (1.5-hour trip).
- 20:05 hours Arrival of the train to Ollantaytambo and transfer to the city of Cusco.
Note: All times mentioned in the itinerary are approximate and will vary depending on how the group progresses along the route.
In the shared or group tour, the third night will not be spent at Llaqtapata camp, but at Playa Sahuayaco or Santa Teresa camp.
5 Day Salkantay Trek Itinerary
Cusco - Soraypampa - Humantay Lagoon
To start this wonderful 5 Day Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu. At 4:30 a.m., our staff will pick you up at your hotel in Cusco. Then, take a 2-hour drive to the Mollepata village where you will have a homemade breakfast. Then, continue your journey to Challakancha, the trek starting point, where you will also meet the muleteers who will be in charge of transporting all the camping equipment.
As you hike, enjoy the Villcabamba mountain range spectacular views. At noon, taste the delicious dishes prepared by our local cook. In the afternoon, take a short hike to the stunning Humantay Lagoon (4,200 masl/13.779ft), admire the scenic beauty and take excellent photographs.
At 18:30, dinner and overnight at Soraypampa camp.

Soraypampa – Salkantay Highest Pass – Chaullay
Today you will wake up among the Villcabamba mountain range. At 5:40 am, have breakfast and then start uphill hike to the highest point of the 5 Day Salkantay trek to Machu Picchu. From the Salkantay highest pass, admire the majesty of the Apu Salkantay (Apu = tutelary God) and also visit the blue lagoon. Then start descending towards Wayracpunku and take a short break to enjoy an energetic lunch.
After lunch, continue descending to the tropical forest, where you will appreciate the richness of the biodiversity (flora and fauna) and finally arrived at the Chaullay campsite.
At 6:30 pm. Dinner and overnight in tents.

Chaullay - Playa Sahuayaco – Llaqtapata.
After the delicious breakfast, start walking among the tropical forest, commonly referred to the as high jungle. This part of your adventure is considered one of the best sections because you can see varieties of wild and domestic vegetation such as orchids, begonias, coffee plantations, bananas, oranges and more.
After 5-hour hiking, take a short break for lunch at Playa Sahuayaco. Then continue on a beautiful and original Inca trail that ascends to Llaqtapata camp. It is the best Salkantay trek 5 days camp because you will spend the night in front of the Machu Picchu inca citadle, appreciate the beautiful sunset and sunrise and undoubtedly have the beautiful panoramic views. If you are a birds, mammals and orchids lover, this is the perfect place to observe.
At night, make a bonfire with all the expedition members. If the night is starry, you will be able to see the Inca constellations.

Llaqtapata – Hydroelectric – Machupicchu town (Aguas Calientes)
This morning will be fantastic because you will have magical views of the first sun light that will illuminate the top of Huaynapicchu Mountain and the Machu Picchu Inca city.
After your energy breakfast, explore the stunning and small Llaqtapata archaeological site. It is still covered in its 80% with vegetation and around it, you can observe the diversity of flora and fauna. If you are lucky, you can see the spectacled bear or the Andean bear.
After all, begin to descend a zigzag path to the hydroelectric plant, where you will have your last lunch, and then you will say goodbye to the muleteers and cook.
From the Hydroelectric power plant, you have two options to get to Machu Picchu village: the first option, walk along the railway side for 3 hours, therefore, there are many small stones on the way, but it is a spectacular route. The second option is to board the train and travel about 48 minutes (train departure time: 14:17 or 14:50 hours).
Once you arrive at Machu Picchu town, settle into your hotel and at 18:30 hours enjoy your last dinner at a selected restaurant.

Machu Picchu town (Aguas Calientes) - Machu Picchu - Return to Cusco.
Today is an exceptionally important day because you will visit one of the new 7 wonders of the world, Machu Picchu. In fact, this is the place most dreamed of by all travelers visiting Peru.
After breakfast at your hotel, go up to the Inca city of Machu Picchu according to the schedule assigned on your entrance ticket, you can go up by bus or walking. The guided tour inside the lost city of the Incas will last 2.5 hours and if you have booked a ticket to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, climb on your own after the guided tour.
After all, take the bus to the Aguas Calientes town, have lunch on your own and then head to the train station. Take your return train to Ollantaytambo or Poroy station. Upon arrival, our staff will be waiting for you to escort you to the Cusco city – Hotel.

Recomendations
- To do the Salkantay Classic Trek 5 Day, you should be in Cusco at least 2 days before to acclimatize better.
- For the best acclimatization, take pills for altitude sickness and coca leaves infusion. You should take short walks around the Cusco city on your own, or you can hire a short tour such as the Cusco city Tour, the Sacred Valley, the salt mines of Maras – Moray. If you hire one of these tours you will have a special discount.
