This Apu T’acllo Rainbow Mountain Day Tour, comprises an unforgettable journey as you travel from Cusco in a tourist mobility with a professional guide on board, you will pass through a beautiful valley full of diverse cities and picturesque villages and the Cusco’s inter-Andean and altiplanic landscapes. You will also be able to appreciate the local population daily activities (Quechua-speakers, the Inca empire’s descendants). Finally, you will arrive at your main destination which is the Apu T’acllo apacheta’s Pallay Poncho mountain’s summit.
To get to the Pallay Puncho mountain’s viewpoint, which is located at 4,790 masl/15,715ft, from the parking lot, you will start a short uphill hike about 2 km/1.2 miles in 1.5 hours at a slow pace. Once at the top, you’ll enjoy a whole compendium of scenic beauty and you won’t find words to describe it.
On the way back to Cusco, visit the Raqchi archaeological site, the Wiraqocha’s God temple built by the Inca Empire.

- Depart Cusco at 4:30 – 5:00am.
- At 6:30 -7:30 am. Homemade breakfast in the Cusipata town.
- At 9:00am. Arrival at the parking lot and hiking start to the Pallay Poncho Mountain viewpoint
- At 10:00am – 10:30am. Arrival to the Apu T’acllo Rainbow Mountain summit.
- At 11:00 – 11:30 hrs. Start of the descent to the parking lot.
- At 12:00 – 12:30 hrs. Return by bus and lunch in Sicuani or Cusipata town.
- Visit to the Raqchi archaeological site.
- Arrival in Cusco at approximately 19:00 hrs.

1 Day Pallay Poncho Rainbow Mountain Tour
Cusco - Cusipata – Layo - Pallay Poncho mountain – Raqchi - Cusco.
To start the Pallay Poncho 1 day tour. The guide and tourist transport will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 4:30 to 5:00 am, depending on the location of the hotel where you are spending the night. Then we will take a 1.5-hour drive to the Cusipata village where we will have our healthy breakfast. Then, we will continue traveling through a beautiful valley full of crops and colorful villages.
Passing the Sicuani city, we will turn right on the road that goes towards Espinar and Arequipa until we find the Languilayo Lagoon beautiful view and then we will turn left on a dirt road that will lead us to the Langui and Layo villages. This part of the trip will be unforgettable because we will travel along the Languilayo Lagoon bank with magnificent and unique panoramic views and where we can also appreciate the rich Andean biodiversity and fish farming cages.
In the Layo village, we will make a short stop to buy things we need to take to the mountain such as water, fruits, chocolates, sweets, etc. Because here we will find the last stores to stock up. From this village, we will begin to ascend in our mobility by a very narrow and winding road to the parking lot. As we ascend, the panoramic views will be more and more enchanting and we will be able to appreciate the wonderful pigmentation of the surrounding mountains.
Once we are in the parking lot, we will get ready for a 1.5-hour short hike at a slow pace to the Pallay poncho mountain viewpoint. When we get to the top, there we will have the reward of this long trip, we will see the famous Pallay Poncho mountain that has beautiful colors formed by some mineral’s oxidation and clay in the stripes form that resembles the Andean fabric (Andean poncho). From the top we will also be able to enjoy the enchanting panoramic view on the horizon as the Cusco highlands and the Andes mountain range.
After taking pictures and enjoying the beautiful scenery, we will begin to descend to the parking lot and take our transportation to return to Cusco. On the way we will stop to enjoy our buffet lunch prepared with Andean ingredients (Lunch place Sicuani or Cusipata). We will also stop to visit the Raqchi archaeological site which was the Wiraqocha God’s temple and one of the Inca empire’s emblematic buildings.
