DAY 1

Machu Picchu Day Tour

Today, take a full-day tour to Machu Picchu, cultural and natural heritage of humanity and wonder of the world.

Today very early in the morning (3:45 am), our staff will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco, then you will be transferred in a tourist minibus to Ollantaytambo train station. Take the 6:10 am train and make a breathtaking journey through the Urubamba River valley surrounded by huge mountains until you reach Machu Picchu village (Aguas Calientes).

Upon arrival to the Aguas Calientes Tonw, you will be greeted by one of our hosts and professional tour guide who will escort you on your Machu Picchu tour, the lost city of the Incas. Passing the checkpoint, head to the lookout point (watchman’s house), from where you can enjoy the breathtaking panoramic view of Machu Picchu in perfect harmony with nature. Also take excellent photographs that will immortalize your experience and then, walk through the urban area highlights.

After your tour in Machu Picchu, board a bus to the Aguas Calientes town and have lunch on your own. Later (2:55pm, 3:20pm, or 6:20pm), take your train back to Ollantaytambo. Upon arrival, be greeted by our staff, and continue your trip back in a tourist minibus to Cusco city.

Note: If you wish to climb to the top of Huaynapicchu or Machu Picchu mountain, your entrance ticket must be by 9:00 am.

DAY 2

Rainbow Mountain Short Hike Tour

Today, start your Rainbow Mountain tour at 04:30 AM. Aboard a tourist mobility, leave your hotel and the bustling Cusco city and take a 3-hour trip to the Rainbow Mountain. Before arriving at your main destination, make a brief stop to enjoy your homemade breakfast in the Cusipata town. Then continue your journey to the 7-Color Mountain bus parking lot.

At 8:40 am, begin the 2-hour uphill hike at a leisurely pace escorted by an expert local trekking guide. From the Rainbow Mountain viewpoint (5200 masl / 17,060ft), appreciate and photograph the amazing mountain of different colors in the form of stripes formed by different types of mineral oxides over millions of years. Also admire the scenic beauty of the imposing Ausangate mountain (6385 masl/20,948ft), and walk among the South American camelids in their natural habitat. Finally, get off and board your tourist transport to Cusipata town and taste the local food prepared with Andean ingredients (buffet). After your lunch and short rewarding rest, take your tourist transport to return to Cusco. Arrival at 5:00-30 pm.

Machupicchu Andes Tours, always works to provide the best service to its customers, that is why, the first options to visit Machu Picchu are the tickets of circuits 1 or 2, which allow access to the viewpoint (top). When these circuits are sold out for the date you wish to visit, we will not be able to do anything to get them and we will give you as an option other circuits that are available (circuit 3 lower part).

We strongly recommend that you book your trip at least 2 months in advance, this way, we will secure tickets for circuits 1 or 2.

Important: Machu Picchu tickets, once purchased, don’t have a name change option, travel date and are non-refundable. Please note that if you cancel your trip, you will automatically lose 100% of the cost of your ticket. If you wish to resume or change the date of your visit to Machu Picchu, you must purchase a new ticket (subject to availability). These are Peruvian government policies.

If you wish to travel with your heavy luggage, you will have to pay a supplement to the train company and go through a long process to send it by freight train.

  • $ 75 USD. Travel on the Vistadome panoramic train. It superior-class train that has cars with large windows on the wall and on the roof that allow you to enjoy the scenic view. It also offers typical dances and fashion shows on board.
  • $ 43 USD. Buffet lunch at the Tinkuy restaurant by Belmond Sanctuary Lodge Hotel, located at the main entrance of the Machu Picchu citadel.

Machu Picchu has a tropical climate, during the year it remains warm. The temperature ranges between 18 and 27°C /46°F and 80°F.

Rainbow Mountain has a cold climate. The temperature varies between 0 and 12°C / 32°F and 54°F. during the year. In the rainy season there is snow.

What is the Cusco, Machu Picchu and Rainbow Mountain altitude?

Cusco is at an altitude of 3350 masl /10,991ft. Machu Picchu is at 2450 masl / 8,038ft. The rainbow mountain or mountain of the 7 colors is at 5200 masl/17,060ft.

How can I avoid altitude sickness (soroche)?

You should sleep one night in Lima, rest well in your hotel, and the next day travel to Cusco. Before and upon arrival in Cusco, drink medicine for altitude sickness (soroche). In your hotel in Cusco also drink a coca leaves infusion (the coca has alkaloids), which will help you to oxygenate and acclimatize better. Avoid smoking cigarettes, or drinking alcoholic beverages and coffee that obstruct the best oxygenation. It is a good idea to first visit Machupicchu and then the Rainbow Mountain. This way you will not feel altitude sickness symptoms.

How much luggage can I take on the train to Machu Picchu?

The train company only allows you to travel with a personal backpack (5 kilos/ 11 pounds), otherwise, you will have to pay a surcharge on the cargo train and you will have to go through a long process to send your luggage.

How can I join in 2 Day Rainbow Mountain and Machu Picchu Group Tour?

How to get to Cuzco?

Most travelers arrive in Cusco by plane. You should fly from your country to Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima (Peru) and then take a local flight from Lima to Cusco. There are four airlines that operate round-trip flights between Lima and Cusco: LATAM Airlines, AVIANCA Airlines, Star Peru and Peruvian Airlines. All offer similar flight schedules and services, but we generally recommend LATAM or AVIANCA Airlines, as they tend to be more accommodating when unexpected cancellations or delays occur.

What type of plugs are used in Peru?

In Peru, 220 volts, 60 Hz frequency and A/B /C type plugs are used.

It is recommended to bring an adapter or converter according to the voltage, frequency and plugs used in your country. Although most hotels and even homes in Peru now have the standard plug.
